Exercise Highland Warrior
11/12th April 1992
Stamford Training Area, Norfolk

The 11/12 April saw the Company deploy to the Stamford training area, Norfolk; one of our favourite stamping grounds, for Exercise Highland Warrior, a Company level FTX. The weekend was enhanced by the use of the SAWES laser training system, that allows the accurate simulation of Small Arms fire by fitting a laser projector to each soldiers' weapon, and laser receivers to his webbing. The use of this system increases realism tenfold and substantially enhances both fieldcraft and marksmanship. Gun battles with blanks at 400m, were unheard of in the past, and came as a substantial eye opener. Realism was also enhanced by the use of a Lynx helicopter from 657 Sqd AAC, which enabled us to fly Platoons in as an ARF. During this Exercise we were visited by CO Des, London Regt, under whose command we now fall.
