CSM Jamie Archdale

It is with considerable sadness that we report the death of Jamie Archdale on 17th March. He would be remembered by a number of the last era of the 1st Bn and the first era of 'G' Company, of which he eventually became CSM under Major Rutherford-Young. We knew him as a total extrovert. Certainly, in his lighter moments, which were many, his infectious laugh defused many tense situations. Unfortunately, when he handed over the reins of office as CSM he also retired from schoolmastering and took himself off to his native Worcestershire where he farmed and practised country pursuits with considerable enthusiasm.

We offer our condolences to his widow, Yvonne, and his brother. There are not a few members of the Sergeants' Mess, of which he was President in 1978, who will reminisce on those days when he was one of their number and eventually became Seagull of 'G' Company, 1/51 Highland Volunteers. John Van der Vord and David James attended the funeral at Worcester.
